CAMM (High School) Intern Research Program
This program provides both for internships during the academic year and for summer employment opportunities for high school students. The interns follow an experimental hands-on program that introduces the students to several aspects of the Center’s research activities. The summer participants will be involved directly in the on-going research of the Center and will assist with the development of both the modeling tools and development of the remote classroom program. Deliberate efforts will be made to attract women, underrepresented minorities students and underprivileged students.
Previous Success: This has been the most successful pilot program to date. Over the past six years, three different schools have participated, resulting in a total of 18 paid internships. Ten of these internships were given to females, and 8 were given to males. Six of the internships supported minority students, and sixteen went to support students from the smallest school in the public school system in the city. At least four of the students directly entered materials science and engineering upon starting college.
