Current Research:

Soumya is a CAMM Graduate Research Associate working towards his PhD in the Materials Science and Engineering department. His overall research interest lies in the fields of characterization, physical and mechanical metallurgy. His work is mainly based on Development of Beta Titanium Alloys for Orthopedic Implant Applications. It involves fabrication of desired beta titanium alloy compositions by the Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS™) technique, characterization of microstructure and evaluation of mechanical properties of these alloys after various thermo-mechanical treatments, and development of rules-based predictive models followed by their experimental validation. The aim is to have a better insight into the factors influencing different composition-microstructure-property relationships. He also plays a part in the Quantitative Analysis of Microstructural features in Alpha-Beta and Beta Titanium Alloys using 3D Stereological Procedures.
